Acupuncture; the most widely known alternative medicine treatment, has been the primary method of treatment in China for over 5000 years. Other countries are slowly catching on and are applying this technique, like China, for the treatment of almost all medical ailments known to mankind. Acupuncture treatment ranges from relieving pain to giving anesthesia to patients. It is probably the best treatment known till this day without any side effects to our bodies.

People following Chinese method of treatment, especially acupuncture, guarantees a long and healthy life. The older and probably one of the first few acupuncture transcripts was found back in 200 BC. Acupuncture needles were introduced by Pien Chueh in the fourth century. He used stone acupuncture needles, moxibustion and herbs to bring a prince out of coma. The Chinese still celebrate this day every year on April 28th.

Acupuncture is basically a treatment that accelerates the body’s natural healing process and improves biological functioning. There are numerous nerve endings in our body. Acupuncture is the practice of stimulating these points via acupuncture needles and electric current in extreme cases. These nerve endings are also called acupuncture points.

Acupuncture is often associated with the treatment and relief of pain, however many experienced practitioners are capable of using acupuncture in a much wider area of health curing many other biological disorders. It treats all sorts of digestive, respiratory, urinary, neurological, muscular and reproductive malfunctions.

Acupuncture treatment is given in a number of sessions to the patients. The number of sessions depends upon the severity of the cause. The number of session may range from 1-2 per week for a few months or even over a number of months. One must keep in mind that acupuncture is a natural treatment and thus the effects are slow but long lasting. Patience and relaxation is the key to long term cure in acupuncture.

Chiropractic studies today are quite diversified, and in some chiropractic schools, there are a variety of undergraduate, graduate, pre-chiropractic, chiropractic, and other degree programs that are offered.

Students seeking chiropractic studies that will lead to becoming a doctor of chiropractic will need to first earn their Bachelor’s degree and/or post-secondary education in prerequisite courses. In most cases, students will need to have a solid academic background in anatomy, biology, chemistry, diagnosis, embryology, microbiology, neurology, pathology, physics, and psychology - to name just a few fields of pre-chiropractic studies.

Typically, chiropractic studies are focused on spinal function and its relationship to not only the nervous systems, but to overall health and wellbeing. Because it is a self healing art, chiropractic principles and philosophies are built on the foundation that the human body is directed and regulated by the brain, spinal cord and interrelated nerves. The school of thought behind the study of chiropractic is that in order to obtain maximum health, spinal adjustments are necessary to remove spinal blockages to restore natural health. At minimum, comprehensive chiropractic studies are comprised of over 4,000 classroom, clinical and laboratory hours, with strong emphasis on laboratory and physical diagnosis, geriatrics, hands-on chiropractic adjustment techniques, neurology, nutrition, orthopedics, physiotherapy, radiology, and many other associated studies.

To attain one’s doctor of chiropractic degree, students who are engaged in chiropractic studies must understand that they will need to pass exams given through the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners to gain licensure. Furthermore, the majority of States call for practicing chiropractors to participate in a set amount of continuing education hours each year to maintain their license to practice.

In addition to doctorate programs, chiropractic studies provided at chiropractic colleges and schools are commonly expanded by professional, postgraduate, and/or post doctorate courses in specialty areas of the field. Frequently included in these chiropractic studies are discipline-specific training in applied chiropractic sciences, family practice, neurology, nutrition, orthopedics, pediatrics, and other related fields of this natural healing art.

Naturopathy Schools permit prospective students to explore the world of natural medicine and the healing arts. As with many colleges and universities, students should carefully preview curricula and any prerequisite course(s) that may be necessary to apply to one of several Naturopathy Schools in the United States and in Canada. In many cases, Naturopathy Schools may require certain post-secondary education prior to entry. While some Naturopathy Schools may prefer a bachelor’s degree, it is not always a condition of enrollment.

In the student’s interest, it would be wise to attain formal education in biology, microbiology, humanities, general chemistry, and biochemistry. Many Naturopathy Schools will most likely require some, if not all, of these classes before students apply. As an added incentive, many Naturopathy Schools sometimes offer pre-naturopathic education to their students so they are keyed into the standard curriculum involved in attaining naturopathic degrees.

Once enrolled in one of a number of Naturopathy Schools, students will soon discover a broad range of natural healing modalities, in addition to standard sciences. Typical coursework offered through Naturopathy Schools will commonly include health sciences (anatomy, biochemistry, diagnosis, infectious disease, neuroanatomy, oncology, physiology, etc.); history, philosophy, and ethics of naturopathy; practice management; and naturopathic modalities (botanical medicine, behavioral/cognitive therapies, homeopathic medicine, nutrition, etc.). In addition to practical applications and studies provided through Naturopathy Schools, students will also be exposed to pharmacology and pathology, as well as essential business and communications skills.

While there are still a myriad of untouched subjects that students will learn about in Naturopathy Schools, students can rest assured that they will receive a course-intensive educational program designed with the future Naturopathic doctor in mind. Consequently, students enrolled at Naturopathy Schools and who are attempting to earn their diploma* or degree in naturopathic medicine should be advised that each state and each country may differ with regard to licensing and/or title regulations. Academics provided through Naturopathy Schools vary in duration, but generally, naturopathy degree programs may last anywhere from 4-7 years, depending on full or part-time enrollment.

Furthermore, though several Naturopathy Schools do offer continuing education, distance learning and condensed certificate programs, usual coursework is directed toward degree programs in healing arts.
